LIVE BROADCAST 3 OCTOBER 2022 @ 6-9P (EST)

UNIVERSE CITY NYC × CORNELL UNIVERSITY ART, ARCHITECTURE, & PLANNING (AAP) NEW YORK PRESENT “BEING PROPERTY ONCE MYSELF (PART 1): UNIVERSE CITY NYC ECOLOGIES” LIVE FROM CORNELL TECH

We invite you to join us on Monday, 3 October 2022 from 6-9p for the Universe City NYC × Peter Robinson Cornell AAP Studio mid-semester celebrations.

This event will be held at the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island at Tata Innovation Center, 11 East Loop Road, 5th floor. We have planned an evening of exhibition, workshops, & discussions and welcome your involvement and support.

This semester, our studio, Housing + Property: Being Property Once Myself, seeks to unravel our understanding of property and ownership by moving toward relational ontologies that offer sustainable pathways to spatial justice. Our goal is to challenge our assumptions regarding ownership and spatiality while considering the role of architects and planners as co-conspirators toward this aim. The 2022 Robinson Studio at Cornell AAP is:

KLYTAIMNISTRA AVGETIDOU, GEENA JASMINE BABER, DANA FRANCINE HERRAULT, SHHRRUTI JAIN, TREVOR KEITA JENSEN, DEVIN PERLO, THOMAS LIAV PETLUCK, PHASIT RATTANACHAISIT, NJILLAN TISBEH SARRE, SARAH LARISSA STANZI + AUBREY MICHELLE STERLING

Universe City NYC (UC) — our community partner for the second year running — is an East New York-based Ecological Public Health Laboratory with a mission to ensure generational equity through urban farm education and entrepreneurship development. UC has a unique relationship with the spaces they occupy and operate within, based on generational trust and equity-based transactions. It spans race, gender, class and geographical boundaries. This has provided UC with the freedom to construct a grassroots liberation practice deeply embedded in East New York & Brownsville.

In a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood, this undergirding is being challenged, distorted and up-ended. Our studio — a collaboration of architects and planners — has worked together with UC’s five Executives to construct five UC Ecologies as a multimedia installation to explore and reflect upon. We invite you to join our students, Universe City NYC, and friends + supporters from East New York/ Brownsville, Brooklyn in workshops aimed at creating:

+ A DECLARATION OF VALUES +

+ A STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND ACCOUNTABILITY +

+ FORWARD MOVING STRATEGIES +

If you can't make it, this special event will be live broadcast on MIDHEAVEN.network — join us from any internet-connected device at 6p (EST). We look forward to your participation.
